Friday Foodstuffs: How I've lost 22 lbs

A few months ago I wrote about how I wasn’t happy with how I looked and I was making a change. Well, it hasn’t been an empty threat.  Since Halloween I have lost 22 lbs, completed the Couch to 5K training program, ran my first 5K race (very slowly, in the pouring rain, where I was narrowly beat out by man dressed as a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon) I even have joined a group training for the Rock n Roll half marathon coming to town in November.

I'm in the Indiana Shirt, to the right of the human PBR can.
And I’ve done it all while still eating really well.  I’ll admit, it takes some serious discipline and I haven’t had a whole lot of bread or booze since I got started on Weight Watchers. However, I have been able to find satisfying alternatives to fit my cravings yet still stay within the program. Sure I’ve had bad days.  With Max being sick the last two weeks we’ve had take out more times then I care to admit and on Wednesday I’m pretty sure I ate my weight in Dove dark chocolate hearts. Still, it’s a lifestyle change and I won’t let a few days derail me.

Here’s what we are eating this week:

Friday: Crab Cakes
Saturday: Coq au Vin (from Weight Watchers Magazine)
Sunday: Steak, Roasted Asparagus with Horseradish Dressing (from Weight Watchers Magazine)
Monday:  Chinese Take-out (going on year 5 of this Valentine's Day tradition with my love)
Tuesday:  Greek Chicken and Barley Salad
Wednesday: Pasta with sauce and veggies
Thursday: Pan Grilled Pork Chops with Grilled Pineapple Salsa, Black Beans

Also, if you are interested in learning more about meal planning, from finding the best recipe to navigating the grocery store with rambunctious children, go check out Mama Nash’s blog.  She is doing a great series on meal planning and has some stellar tips.

I was doing great with Spark People for a couple months. And fell off the wagon. Well, ran the wagon into a ditch filled with wine and bread and pizza.

I hope to crawl out soon.

Yay you for doing the 5k!! I printed up the training schedule last Spring... mayble I'll give it try again THIS Spring.

So proud of you! Did you get the crab meat from Publix? It seems like the only thing I ever see at Food Lion is preseasoned imitation crap crab.

Awesome job on your 5k! And keep us updated on your half marathon training. I want to run a half marathon sometime in the late summer/early fall. It's nice to know you'll be working on the same goal :-).

Oh Laura you are an inspiration and a reminder that I have no excuse not to take steps to get my weight (some strange late 20's version of the freshman 15) and eating habits. :) I've heard the rock and roll races are a ton of fun.

Good for you! I'm impressed with your exercising and good eating habits. You are motivating me to get back on board.

I exercise often, but I admit that I have been slacking on exertion and length of the workout. And I've been indulging. I was so careful over the holidays to avoid gaining weight, but in the past month I've gained five pounds. Not good!

You go, Laura! I don't even like to drive that far, much less run 5K... so I am really in awe of people like you that have the motivation and follow through I lack. Well done, and keep up the good work!

And next race? I know you'll blow that PBR can out of the water. :)

You ROCK!!! I wish I could have continued on the 5K journey but was just starting out when the 2 pink lines appeared on the pee stick and I lost all motivation. And thanks for the link - looks like so great tips that I REALLY need to follow! Keep up the great work :) I'll need you to inspire me when I get back on the workout wagon!

Laura, I have to admit, I've never thought of you as an overweight person so when I see that you lost 22lbs I'm thinking HOLY CRAP! Good for you, lady! And a half marathon?! I mean I know you haven't ran it yet, but the training alone. WOW! You rock.
